Gentle Teeth Cleanings and Gum Disease Treatment

Our skilled and competent hygienists provide gentle and thorough cleanings using the latest procedures and advanced equipment, including prophy jets and ultrasonic scalers to remove stubborn stains and for a bright, polished finish.

Thorough, Effective Deep Cleanings

Your comprehensive exam will establish if you have gum disease and need deep cleaning or if you can get a regular cleaning. Our hygienists use gentle deep cleaning to remove bacteria and hardened plaque. Their deep cleaning is very thorough to ensure the gums heal. If needed, they will apply Arestin®, a localized time-release antibiotic therapy that reduces the amount of bacteria present. If you have severe gum disease, Dr. Diane Alvarez, our in-house periodontist, is highly knowledgeable and skilled at effectively treating periodontitis. Read more about our Gum Disease Treatment.

Dental Emergencies

If you have an emergency situation, call (954) 566-7479. If it is during regular business hours, we will do our best to see you on the same day. We also have after-hours phone service until 9pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends to provide fast response and scheduling. When you arrive, the doctor will assess your condition and, if need be, get you out of pain.

Porcelain Crowns & Bridges

Durable and Natural-Looking Crowns

When a tooth has been damaged, a crown can be placed over its entire external portion down to the gum line. This restores the form and function of the tooth. Crowns are typically placed over teeth whose cavities are too large for fillings. Dr. Johnson also provides onlays and inlays, porcelain restorations that go over or inside the cusps of your teeth and are good for large cavities but require much less preparation than a crown.

Crowns may be used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a broken or chipped tooth. Dr. Johnson uses high-grade materials and works closely with our lab to provide you with durable, natural-looking crowns that blend in with your natural teeth. She offers all-porcelain, metal-free crowns and strong zirconia for heavy clenchers and grinders.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or a few missing teeth. We make all-porcelain bridges and customize them to fit well. Dr. Johnson typically recommends a dental bridge if the teeth on either side of the missing teeth are already capped or if the patient can’t receive a dental implant for some reason. Otherwise, she recommends dental implants to replace missing teeth for a much longer-lasting, more natural-looking and feeling experience, and because they don’t require cutting down of adjacent teeth as with a dental bridge.

Dr. Johnson can restore your teeth with a tooth-colored filling, which is a safer and more appealing solution to metal fillings. Gentle Tooth Extractions and Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Skilled, Gentle Tooth Extractions

Dr. Johnson tries to save teeth whenever possible, but if a tooth is too badly damaged or wrongly positioned, an extraction may be the only solution. We perform gentle tooth extractions and have many ways to keep you comfortable during the procedure, including oral sedation. When we extract a tooth we place a small amount of bone graft material to preserve the socket and prevent bone resorption.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Wisdom teeth are the molars in the very back of your mouth that normally emerge during your late teens or in your twenties. If there is not enough room for them to come in, or if they come in incorrectly, it can result in bite misalignment, pain, crowding or damage to the jaw. We provide gentle wisdom tooth extraction for non-impacted wisdom teeth.

Bone grafting and sinus lifts for dental implants

A solid foundation is vital to the success of a dental implant. To compensate for bone loss beneath a missing tooth, it may be necessary to augment the jaw bone to provide enough bone to support an implant post. Sinus lifts may also be done to provide vertical space for an implant site.

Our periodontist, Dr. Alvarez, is an expert in bone grafting and sinus lifts and will perform bone grafting if needed as part of your dental treatment.

A sinus lift may be necessary when a sinus is too close to the location where a dental implant is to be placed. This can occur when teeth in the back of the upper jaw are missing, causing the sinuses to expand.

Gum Disease Treatment

Our in-house periodontist, Dr. Diane Alvarez, is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease. She is highly skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to combating all stages of gum disease. She works closely with you to thoroughly educate you on how to maintain a healthy smile for life.

Dr. Alvarez’s approach to treating gum disease lies in patient education. She and our friendly hygienists will take the needed time to educate you on gum disease and give you the tools and techniques necessary to maintaining a healthy smile.

Dr. Alvarez will show you photos of your gums throughout the course of your treatment so that you can see the progress and be aware of how healthy gums should look. She will help you recognize the signs of gum disease or trouble areas so that you know how to maintain a healthy smile following your treatment.

Gentle and Thorough Deep Cleaning

Our hygienists perform gentle, thorough deep cleanings to remove the bacterial accumulations that cause gum disease. This often eliminates the need for more invasive procedures, such as periodontal surgery.

Antibiotic therapy

Dr. Alvarez uses Arestin® sustained-release antibiotic therapy to eliminate any bacteria when gum pockets become deep. Arestin microspheres are placed in the gum pocket and will continue to fight infection for up to three weeks. Dr. Alvarez may prescribe oral antibiotics to address more resistive bacteria.

DNA Bacterial Testing

When treating stubborn gum disease, Dr. Alvarez can use a simple DNA test to determine the exact strain of bacteria present in your mouth. This helps her to prescribe an antibiotic that will most effectively combat the bacteria. DNA testing can also be of help when patients are resistant to specific antibiotics.

Sedation Options

Sedation allows those who feel anxious about undergoing dental work to receive the treatment they need. Most patients remain awake after taking sedation medication and only experience a sleepy feeling.

Oral Sedation

We provide oral sedation in the form of a sedative pill to help you relax. Oral sedation puts you into a sort of “twilight” sleep in which you can still respond to requests and questions.

Nitrous Oxide

We offer nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, as one of our sedation options. Nitrous oxide takes effect quickly—from a few seconds to a few minutes after inhaling. It obscures pain and gives patients a feeling of well-being.

Panoramic X-rays

Panoramic X-rays provide our doctors with a view of your lower and upper arch in a single image. We use panoramic X-rays to get a clear view of your teeth, sinuses, jaw and other anatomical structures, which is crucial to accurate and comfortable dental implant placement as well as treatment planning for dentures, braces and extractions.

3D CT Scans

We use a 3D cone beam CT scanner that has a built-in panoramic feature that allows us to view the most important areas of your mouth. This machine allows our doctors to accurately plan implant placement surgery. For your convenience, we provide a mobile service that allows us to visit you and do a CT scan in your home.

iTero Element

Our digital scanner captures detailed 3D images of your teeth. This replaces the need to make plaster impressions of your teeth which then have to be sent to the lab. iTero scans are used for making Invisalign® braces as well as crowns and bridges.

Propel Orthodontic

Dr. Johnson uses VPro5® Propel Orthodontic, a state-of-the-art device that complements Invisalign® teeth straightening. Used for just a few minutes a day, the device can cut treatment time down by 50% and reduce any tenderness and discomfort that can occur when wearing aligner trays.
