The first step of root canal treatment is detailed digital X-rays, using a very low dose of radiation. Dr. Bui is a highly experienced root canal treatment specialist and only performs root canals when they are absolutely necessary.
A root canal is a hollow area inside your tooth which contains blood vessels, nerves and soft tissue, often referred to as “pulp.” These tissues sometimes become infected, causing pain, swelling and abscesses. This endangers the tooth and possibly leads to tooth loss. If left untreated, the infection can spread to other parts of the jaw.
Dr. Bui, our highly skilled in-house endodontist (root canal specialist), performs expert root canal treatment to remove the infected area and preserve the tooth. Due to his training as a specialist, Dr. Bui can determine with great accuracy whether or not you truly needed a root canal, and if so, he can perform your treatment gently and efficiently in a single visit.
Dr. Bui explains your root canal treatment in detail.
Dr. Bui is known for his calming and reassuring manner and his ability to put patients at ease. He explains the procedure in detail so you know what is happening and what to expect. Dr. Bui executes root canals in an efficient, gentle manner.
Our patients often comment that they are relaxed and surprised at how easy their treatment was with Dr. Bui, even without anti-anxiety medication. However, if you are anxious, we can provide oral sedation to make your visit as pain-free and relaxing as possible.
During root canal treatment, the tissue inside the canal is removed, after which the empty canal is disinfected. The canal is then filled with a sterile material that seals it and prevents any future infection.
A dental crown is placed on top of the tooth to restore full function. Although the root itself is now dead, the tooth can sitll function as it will be nourished by the tissues surrounding it. Saving a tooth with root canal therapy has the benefit of maintaining the chewing power of the tooth and keeping the adjacent teeth stably in position.
